With 20.000 Strokes across the sea, Veit Quack and Eran Davidson would like to prove one thing first and foremost:
Anyone is capable of making a difference, of achieving something extraordinary! You don’t have to be a world-champion or high-flyer. It suffices to follow your dreams and determinedly work towards them.
Eran Davidson and Veit Quack share one passion – rowing. Nothing is so regenerative after a tiring day at work as to silently heave one’s way across the water: Nature. Calm. Freedom!
The Wannsee in Berlin is perfect for the job: a placid stretch of water. For these narrow rowing boats really are quite unstable. A couple of little waves from a passing motorboat are enough to put one into danger of capsizing, falling into the water – a through and through uncomfortable experience in winter!
Yet it was precisely this experience that gave rise to the desire to leave the safe waters of the Wannsee and throw oneself right into the middle of extreme peril: To row such an ordinary little rowing boat through the high waves of the Atlantic!
On June 30th 2013 the time will come. From the little island of Porto Santo in the Atlantic, the route will lead to Madeira – 47km across the open sea! Through this daring adventure Eran Davison and Veit Quack want to raise awareness about the consequences of rising sea levels. To this end there are lectures being conducted with the help of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and a film project in cooperation with the organization GermanWatch. A story of passion, risk and how to survive regardless.

Current sea level rise
In co-operation with the NGO Germanwatch, money will be used in affected regions, suffering from the rising sea level, for example in Bangladesh, to help them plan measures against it. Please click on Germanwatch's website to learn more.
You can also donate for sandbags. They can save lifes in affected regions. 1 Euro equals 1 sandbag. We will put them wherever they will be needed first.
